You would think that babywearing came naturally to me, given that my mom wrapped us in a giant cloth and wore us around town when we were little. But it was not until my son was born that I “had” to become a babywearer to alleviate the symptoms of his colic. When he got older, I gave up on the generic baby carriers from Target. Sadly, our babyweawring days were interrupted and I missed the cuddly, snuggly feeling of having him so close to me.

But as luck would have it, a snow storm left me with no solution but to carry my son over the icy boulders around the sidewalks in NYC. Then voila! I began to find my way back to baby carriers and the love of babywearing. All of this, I must attribute, to my best friend Renee’s (a extended-breastfeeding, vegetarian, waterbirthed mama) referral of Mothering.com forums. From MDC, I was turned onto TBW (thebabywearer.com) and the rest is history.

My first soft structured carrier was a Patapum. And then I quickly splurged on an Ergo because the Patapum was just not that cute. The Ergo came and the luster wore off quickly. The body was already a bit short for my very tall one year-old.

One night, I found Beco’s site by accident and thought, “holy cow! there are carriers this cute?” So I immediately ordered one. Two weeks later, my “Melrose Pond” Beco arrived.

Shockingly, I didn’t fall in love with the fit at first because it didn’t fit like the Ergo or the Patapum. I went on TBW and found some great advice, such as wearing it a little higher and loosening the straps closer to the body of the carrier. That’s when I found my “sweet spot.”

Shortly after, I decided to become a distributor and to bring fashion into the babywearing world because so many women (and even men!) stop me to ask about the carrier. After all, how many boring solid-colored carriers can we endure? Now, I’m pleased to say that my little boutique has some of my absolute favorite babywearing gear that are hip, chic, yet comfortable and versatile. Can’t beat that!!!
